In his final sermon, Jesus focused on the plights of vulnerable, marginalized, and targeted people groups: the hungry, the thirsty, the sick, the immigrant, the imprisoned, and the destitute. Jesus identifies with them saying: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these you did for me.” Then he calls the faithful to work toward their equitable inclusion in society—in essence, to protect the image of God in them—to protect marginalized people’s divine call to help steward the world. In a democracy, the most basic way citizens steward the world is by exercising one’s right to vote You know many people say that it doesn't matter who you vote for, just that you vote. Their wrong it does make a difference. I have one request. When you vote ask yourself this question. WWJD WHAT WOULD JESUS DO. When you vote, vote not only as an American but as a person of Faith! I just voted and I will tell you this much-----I did not vote... (more)

even if we're just dancing in the dark
Day 69 and counting...insulation was completed (for the most part, 98%) last weekend. So this coming weekend we will start the first phase of sheet-rock in rooms where we can. It's still a long road ahead but we are determined to get our house back together.

Do Not Eat Any Fried Food
How to do it? With a bit of creativity, we can revamp our favourite fried foods so they can be enjoyed guilt-free. Try baking with a coating of bread crumbs instead of deep-frying. This is a great way of mimicking the crunchiness and preserving the tender texture. French fries can be replaced by oven-baked yam (or sweet potato) fries. Fish and chips can be replaced by oven-baked fish that is coated with rolled oat. Fried chicken can be replaced by a grilled version, opting for white meat and peeling the skin. Schnitzel can be replaced by crispy oven-baked pork chop. Why it matters? Fried foods clog arteries and lead to strokes and Alzeimer’s. Clogged veins and arteries cause heart attacks. The saturated fat and trans fat in deep-fried foods increase your risk for cancer and obesity. Fried food is inflammatory and creates problems with joints.

interview for bbbs
Last week I had my interview with B for Big Brothers Big Sisters! It was about an hour long and the reason for it was to match me with a little. We want the best match possible so we both enjoy our year together. Talking with B is amazing, she is the sweetest lady ever. We connect on many levels, she understands why I love to help kids. Talking with her about the type of kid I would work well with was getting me so excited for the mentoring to actually start. I should be matched soon, but until then I am patiently waiting.

Christian Yoga?
There is an interesting article in the September 5th issue of Time magazine. This particular article covers a spectrum of opinions about mixing Christianity with Yoga. Even, if you don't agree with a single opinion, it's a good read, as long as you remain objective. Over the course of time, I have been lucky enough to teach, or practice, with someone from every known religious denomination; so the statement by a Professor Tiwari at the Hindu University of America, where he states that, "Yoga is Hinduism," is surprising, coming from a scholar. Possibly, this statement was taken out of context, but fundamentalism exists, to a degree, in every form of religion. If some Christians want to practice Yoga to make a closer connection to God, who are any of us to criticize it? Isn't one of Yoga's purposes, the union of self with a Supreme Being? So what is the big deal? Truthfully, many fundamentalists are all about division - keeping the masses divided, at war with each other, and... (more)
